Oops! I Did It Again....

Race directors should love me. I can't get an e-mail from a store or a race newsletter without reading every little detail. And inevitably there is an advertisement for a race in there. This is how I ended up running the Shamrock 15K. I didn't even know about this race since it was in Portland and I typically do my racing in Eugene. But the Portland Marathon newsletter advertised it, so I felt compelled to sign up.

Today Fit Right NW sent out an e-mail, and this time they mentioned the Lacamas Lake Half-Marathon. "Where is Lacamas Lake? I haven't even heard of it! I better look at the course map and see!" Turns out it is just across the boarder in Washington. I have a bad history of racing in Washington -- I raced once, puked at the finish line and set my slowest 5K time ever. Perhaps I could redeem my race skills. "What is the course like?"

That sounds lovely! I love lakes. I love medals. I LOVE looking at Mt. Hood. Tree lined country roads? Trails? Serene setting?  Yes please!

So.....

Alright Pacific NW runners .... who's going to join me??

I totally should be a Pacific NW'er. Sigh.

  4. I love how you noticed the "lakes, views of Mt. Hood, and tree-lined streets". I noticed, "pretty steep uphill climb at Mile 12".

I'm totally with you on the medals and signing up for oodles of races though. I figure there are much more harmful addictions to have. Enjoy the race! You are like a half marathon machine!

  5. They're not kidding about the steep uphill climb at the end. Makes Shamrock look flat. In the half, you get to go up it at least twice. I've done the four miler a couple of years ago, Julie may have done the half last year.

  6. I haven't been able to get the elevation chart to load. I'm going to try again tonight. I'll have to pick Julie's brain if we do decide that she did in fact run it last year!

I can't help it. I'm blinded by the bling!

  7. It kicks up from 193 feet to 377 feet from mile 10.5 to the finish. Mile 1.5 to 3.7 is 207 to 321 and mile 5.3 to 6.6 is 219 to 312. So just a little up-hill going on there.

  8. I did in fact run the half last year. And yes, the climb at mile 12 is a bitch. There's also a rough spot at around...mile 6 or 7, I think it was...?

    But!

The course is beautiful, even if a good portion of it is on paved road. There's a really nice section that's on a nicely maintained biking/hiking trail; that was my favorite part, with trail running being my first choice over pavement any day of the week.

Seriously considering doing it again this year.

Cilley - ya up to it? :-)

PS- yes nashville is pretty fun, no matter what you like to do!!!

  10. Wow, they make it sound like a resort getaway and look how happy those runners on the brochure are... they are having so much fun! Good job to their PR person!

Congrats to you though, should be a good one. I don't have any races yet in July... might have to look into that one. :)

  12. Biker Boy and Julie are right about the uphill at the end and at mile 6. I ran this one last year, if you want to check out my race report.

When you drive in, you drive up the hill you finish on. It's through a neighborhood and last year a guy was watering us down with his garden hose. (I didn't know how to say that without sounding naughty, stop giggling).

The hill at Mile 6 was a "surprise" to me. You go up it to the turn around, grab some Skittles (cool race treat) and then run down. I, of course, got caught by my husband walking the hill on the out as he was running downhill on the back. Whatever.

Overall, a great course and well supported. You'll have a great time.

  13. Man I am glad I live in Texas! Not too many hills here!!!

    Good luck on the race!

  14. So is this a good one for somebody who has never run a half to try for their first one?

  15. Pssst...... Biker Boy wants to do it .... can't you tell??

  16. I think he should run it, he knows where the hills are...although I would prefer one that doesn't end with a hill for my first one!

  17. Oooh, I might be in for the 4 miler!!

  18. Yup! Your a runner! That's a race I would have trouble running cuz I would want to stop and take a million pictures.
