Run #4.11 - Success & a BIG Boo-Boo

I feel ready for Disneyland in this skirt.
The shirt, not so much.
Makes me look preggo.
I almost didn't run. I thought I could procrastinate and just do it in the morning. But I knew I'd regret that decision. So run it was! I had success with the KT tape this time. I'm getting better with each application I think. Finally!

For this run I decided it would be short and fast. Well, the fast part came after I started and realized that fast felt really good!
I skipped the park and just stayed in my neighborhood. Later I would be VERY happy I made this decision.  Most of my run was at my old grade school. Seriously - they have these fancy looking computers in the rooms now. And no chalk boards - they are all dry erase boards now. I didn't seen any overhead projectors either. The cool playground structures we used to have ... gone. But the hopscotch, kickball and four-square lines are still there at least.

So back to the run. I was doing awesome and then I think I hit 1.7 miles. At this point I thought I was going to have a true Fruit Fly moment and lose my dinner all over the street. I hit the pause button and walked it off. Ran .13 more miles and had to stop. Major cramping. My whole torso was hating me. I thought I was going to die. I then realized I decided to run as fast as I could (seriously, who told me I could do sub-9??) while being dehydrated and right after I ate some pizza?? OMG, huge mistake. As I was feeling like death I looked over - there actually was a port-a-potty right there. I mean how many times have people been running and all they want is a potty, but there I am in my neighborhood and I found one? (They are doing some street work, so I imagine it is there for the dudes to use during the day.) I decided I would continue running toward my house versus use that. I mean I was only half a mile from home, if that.

Resume running. Oh. My. Gosh.  Just kill me now. I guess this helped me to run faster, but it was so painful (tummy-wise) I could hardly breathe. In 19:13 I had run my 2 miles and was now walking home the last bit. No way was I running any more!

So, in conclusion ... my legs felt AWESOME! Not one single hint of pain. I had so much fun running and wanted to go longer. BUT, do not eat pizza, feel dehydrated and then go running really fast. BIG mistake.

  2. I make a mental note of all the construction sites, and little league sites in town and keep a few city parks "handy" on my runs. Good job, you are getting faster.

  17. Ah yes, if I had looked closer I would have seen that won't be your first. I am thinking about doing another 1/2 for their marathon weekend, but I'm not sure. They are so expensive. :(

  18. Yes they are! But so much fun. I kind of forget about all the $$$ once I get in the whole atmosphere of it all!

  19. I would love to do the "Goofy" but DANG they want some cash to come and play that weekend. And that doesn't include getting there.

  20. Right now for Goofy weekend to get from PDX to MCO is around $380. Ugh. I'm ready for that to go down a hair. The positive part is I get in free and 50% off my hotel, so at least I don't have to pay EVERY penny I have.

For the record... my 5k PR... was following 3 huge slices of greasy pizza. Oh and that little race I did this past Sunday? All 26.2 miles were fueled by a belly full of pizza from the night before. ;-) Dehydration = bad. Pizza = Good.

  24. Thought of you when I read the Runner's World quote of the day today...."Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement." —Steve Prefontaine.
