Run #4.12 - Finish Line Training?

Can I just go to bed now? It's been a long day. Already.

Let's back up!

5:30am my alarm went off. It was light out so I had no good excuse why I should sleep. I thought that thing to myself of how "you never regret the runs you do, only the ones you don't" - and I was up! My goal was 3 miles. Longer than the last, but not too long for the time I had available before work. I laughed as I was in my beginning stretch when I was Rick Rolled! I swear I did not have Rick Astley on my playlist, but here he was singing to me! I think my iPod was playing some sort of joke - and it was funny to me!

Run wise, not much to report. Ran down to the park, veered from my normal path to cross a different bridge, take in more river views, turned around and followed my steps home. Just over 2 miles in my tummy was sending me some signals. I paused at the water fountain to drink something and convinced myself that I would settle for nothing less than 3 miles. Little loop through the park by the band shell and I was back on my way home. I ran the first hill, and only walked up part of the final hill - due to my knee starting to hurt a bit. As I got to the top and was just 1 street from my own I got those signals again. They were getting really loud. I know this feeling all too well. No time to stop, I kept going. I just had about 100 yards to go until I was at my house. Round the corner into my driveway, hit 3 miles, stopped the Garmin .... never made it inside before I was throwing up in my own back yard. Ah, to be me! Some people don't understand when I say I have a weak up-chuck reflex. Here's more proof!

So 3 miles in just under 32 minutes. My legs were pretty good until that final bit. Right now my tummy & throat hurt so bad. I forgot to mention that I had no food or water in me when I started this run. This makes for an unpleasant post race sickness experience. BUT I totally do not regret the run! I'm just ready for a nap.

In Seattle RnR related news, I found out I am in Corral 28. *sigh* Remember that one time I was in Corral B right behind all those elite runners? Yeah, those were the days. During my run I formulated my goals for Seattle. A Goal: Get to the finish line before Everclear takes the stage. I have to be there - Abby and I plan to do the Dougie while rocking out to Everclear? Hm.. B Goal: Finish. C Goal? There is No C. DNF is NOT an option. I don't care if I cross in tears, crawling, asking for my mommy, etc... I WILL finish!

Oh! Biker Boy and I decided to go to the Mariners game before the race. This will make 75% of my half marathons that have an accompanying baseball game ... and my first non-Spring Training MLB game EVER!

  1. YaY! For getting a shout out on your blog.
You will not have to worry about not finishing in time for Everclear. I will. I'm in Corral 35! So count your blessings. oh well. I'm slow and I'm ok with it.

I can't believe Seattle is right around the corner. Yikes. Work has been so crazy I haven't thought about plans besides getting across the finish.

PS- Am I the only one peeved they haven't revealed the medal yet?!

  2. I know! I totally want to see what I'm running for. But then part of me is kind of thinking maybe NOT knowing would give me extra motivation to get to the finish so I can see it?

Whatever - I just want the freaking medal on my neck NOW!

I'm going to practice the Dougie this weekend. I want you to be "totes jelly" of my skills!

  6. Aw Everclear! So jealous! Great job getting out today for a run. Loved the "regret" quote. I need to remember that on my early morning running days!

  7. Ugh, what a tough run! I hope you're feeling better!

I hope to do RNR Seattle someday. I've been wanting to return to Seattle for the past few years. Sounds like you've got lots of fun activities planned for the weekend. Enjoy!

  8. Have fun at the ballgame!! I love Safeco Field - it is a beautiful stadium!! Not that I have been to many and of course I'm just a bit prejudiced, but it is my favorite baseball stadium!!

If you need more cheerleaders at Seattle let me know! I'll be happy to come down to the finish and cheer! :)
