Run #11.5 - Ending on a High Note!

Happy. Relived. Sad (that the 2011 running year is over). Accomplished. Peppy. Ready. That's how I felt after my final long run of this training cycle, as well as my final run of 2011.

Last year I ran 321 miles. For this run I did 8.4 miles in 1:31 to finish the year with 559 miles. Sure, I could have put one more in somewhere, but that's okay. I'm very proud of my 559 miles!

This run was crazy fun! I just set out on my own to weave around the park and neighborhood. I really enjoyed saying hello to all of the other people on the paths and enjoyed listening to the wonderful nasally drone of the Ace man, Adam Carolla. Around my half way point a man with his children in the park talked to me. "Did you just run that whole loop?" "Yep, and now I'm going to do it again!" "Wow, that's impressive." "Thanks!"  What a boost to hear that. I was running pretty well for me, and for a stranger to compliment me was really nice!

As the run went on, keeping with my standard 4:1 intervals, I kept getting faster. For the last mile and a half or more I was constantly seeing 9:21 on my Garmin for my running pace. Nice! My legs always like that pace, but I don't normally maintain it for so long. To see myself keeping at that pace and getting even faster in my last bit was awesome! I feel calm and as ready as I can be for next weekend's raceS.

Part of my reason for going faster was to get home and give myself a make-over. I vowed after the run that for the rest of the year I would NOT dress like a runner. And so a lot of work later, I was out the door ready for a night out -- as the designated driver, believe it or not!

It was a blast. Happy New Year to all of you.
Let's have a great 2012, shall we?!?
