Are You Ready to Go Back to Titanic?

Obsession. It is a lifelong obsession.

In 1985 I was a lot shorter than I am now. My face was just as round, my dimples just as deep. I had bangs. I also had piano lessons. My grandma would drop me off at the music store early every week. I'd go upstairs and sink into a comfy chair and read (i.e. look at the pictures) National Geographic. When they added to the collection the issue with the Titanic I was mesmerized. Here was this huge ship now at the bottom of the ocean and covered with all sorts of strange sea things. As a young girl I could hardly comprehend what I was seeing. Every week I flipped through that issue. Ever since, I've been hooked.

For the last couple of weeks, every time I get into my facebook account I see something new someone has posted on my wall about Titanic. My obsession seems to be known world wide. No, really, I do have real life friends as far as Southeast Asia! Naturally my fascination with it was going crazy as the release of the 3-D version neared. Monday morning I went straight to my boss' office to ask if I could use comp time to leave early on Wednesday because it was a "very important day in my life." So last night it happened. I finally saw Titanic on the big screen... again, this time in 3-D. Glorious! I had goose bumps the whole time. I even got a lump in my throat at the end. I found the coolest effects from the 3-D to be minor details. I'm not going to say a lot because I want you all to go see it and experience it for yourself! Basically, I will be going again... even if I have to go alone.

I resisted temptation yesterday and did NOT wear my Titanic shirt to the movie. But fine, I'll confess ... I DID have the Heart of the Ocean in my purse. I'm so much cooler than Rose - she only had one. I have TWO! I have this pretty "diamond/sapphire" ring that is a replica of a ring found at the Titanic's resting place. I almost wore it. And I have a piece of coal from the Titanic that is in a necklace. That stays home safe and sound. So really, I think I kept my obsession with all things Titanic pretty low-key last night.

Have you been to an exhibit yet? Please do so! It's so indescribable. Go to Vegas - that one is Incredible! And since you're in Vegas, please do it before you start drinking. I find I go through a complete range of emotions. Excitement. Inspiration. Awe. Calm. Sadness. Then.... then there is the breathtaking part. A 15 ton piece of the ship right there before your very eyes. Words can't describe it. I got goosebumps just now even typing about it. I actually got a little teary the first time I saw it and had to sit down on a bench and just stare while taking it all in. Seeing shoes that are still tied is one of the saddest things, to me anyway. I mean you can be left to assume that it is tied because it was on some poor passenger's foot when the ship went down. The way these artifacts are preserved is impressive. To see a bottle of wine with wine still in it? Who would have thought that could happen?!? Or paper still in one piece? Unbroken dishes?

It blows my mind.

This one is huge because Sparky looks stoned and I look trashed. We were 100% sober.

I've already done research to see how I could get down to see the Titanic in person with my very own two eyes. I should probably start playing the lottery or marry a millionaire. But once that cash flows in ... I'm there!

So are you free this weekend? Want to go with me?

    1. Girls were sobbing last night!! Pretty sure they didn't see it on the big screen originally -- they were pretty young. I heard a lot of sniffling!

  2. I'm tempted to go see it but 3D glasses bother me so I don't know if I could sit there for that long with them on.

    1. I thought I saw, maybe it was on a commercial, that they released it in IMAX, 3-D AND regular. So you could see it without glasses if you wanted!

  4. I don't know if I'd pay to see it again. But I do know that the first thing we did after coming home from our first cruise, was stop at the video store to rent it . . . yes, we are sick people. While on said cruise, we were in Halifax and went on a titanic tour (they were actually the closest port to where the titanic went down and a lot of their ships helped. They have the largest Titanic grave site bc thats where a lot of the bodies went) Seriously, who's idea was that?

    2. I know right?! Most cruises have a huge screen outside that shows movies at night. I thought it was perfect! No one else did though. haha!

  5. I loved the exhibit! (I think I saw it in Houston, but it might have been somewhere else). I haven't seen the movie yet, but I really want to! I saw the preview for it and immediately started to cry.
