Vincent

This post is not about Vincent, a.k.a. Vinny, my ex-boyfriend from New Jersey. You might remember him as "Victor" the ex with the soft lips in a prior post. It is Vinny's birthday tomorrow, so shout out to him!

This is actually, strangely enough, about my obsession today with Vincent Van Gogh. Are we all familiar with the song Vincent (Starry Starry Night) by Don McLean? I've listened to Josh Groban's version of it a LOT this week. I mean it was on repeat the whole way to work this morning and I'm still singing it.

Here's why: I'm finding comfort in it. Did you know that it is thought by some that Van Gogh had Meniere's disease? And perhaps this is why he cut off his ear? Obviously we'll never really know what his exact illnesses were, but that is something I read when doing research on Meniere's in the past.

For some reason this brings me comfort. I've been having Meniere's difficulties (again. shocker) for about a week and a half now. It gets really hard. Frustrating. My mind and body want to run. I've run two miles this week. The whole vertigo thing really makes running hard and scary. And it isn't just the vertigo. I get really bad pressure, pain, kind of a full feeling in my ears. It gets so bad I find I am actually grabbing onto them and applying a different type of pressure just to ease the discomfort a bit. That is usually a day or two before the vertigo kicks in. With all of this, for me anyway, brings on a slight stutter. Once I mix medicine in with it that stutter becomes slurred. I am soooo unbelievably sexy!

So anyway, I know what I go through, and my case is pretty mild compared to other people. As I'm starting to feel like perhaps this round is coming to an end (I really hope so!) I've just found peace listening to Josh Groban sing about Vincent. Maybe it tells me I'm not that crazy after all. That when I just want to lay in bed and cry or when I just want a big hug from someone because I can't take it anymore, at least I haven't cut off my own ear!

Now, am I a fabulous artist like Van Gogh? Ha! I'll have to share my two paintings with you and you can judge for yourself. If you've played Draw Something with me yet, you already know my drawing skills are non-existent!

I'm not sure the point of this post. I just wanted to tell you all to go listen to that song and sing along I guess!

Have a lovely Friday and a dazzling weekend!

  1. I'm so sorry you've been having a hard time. You rock so hard though. I still can't believe you run and have this. Super inspiring.

That does make sense about Van Gogh. Hmm.

    1. Why thanks. I'm annoyed with myself that I'm letting it keep me from running for this week and a half now. I could probably run tonight - but I'm busy singing Les Mis while waiting for Glee and The New Girl to start. Oh, and then there's that little issue of packing.

I seriously haven't stopped listening to this Vincent song yet. I have it on repeat constantly. Eh, whatever helps!
