Royal Palace on the Disney Dream

Alejandro & Linval
If you're reading this you probably know I don't really like food. I have my staple items and that's it. Well I turned into an adult!! At least for a few nights I did. So I thought as a way to share our cruise experience I'd do a mini-series on our food! This is soooo not me. I mean I'm not even going to show you a single grilled cheese sandwich because I never had any!!

So let's start off with night one on the Disney Dream! We had the second dinner seating, which meant dinner at 8:15pm. Full disclosure: I think every night we did get pizza from the pool deck in our room a couple hours before dinner. But we never actually ate lunch either. We didn't have any bit of normal food routine aside from our dinners on the ship. Disney Cruise Line has a dinner rotation where you eat in each restaurant with the same servers and people at your table. You all rotate restaurants together, getting to experience each one and its unique menu. Our main server was Linval from Jamaica. I loved this guy instantly! Alejandro from Mexico was his helper and mainly tended to our drinks. He was awesome as well... and a former International Program participant at the Mexico pavilion in Epcot - we so had that little bit of bonding. Our table mates were a family of 5. Mom (Melissa) , dad, little girl (Ariana), and then grandma and grandpa. The girls loved being at the same table even though they didn't speak the same language! Melissa was the one we chatted with mainly, and she and her husband did all of the ordering for her parents that didn't speak English. Even with the language barrier it really didn't phase anyone's dinner experience at all!

I got a window seat! Granted it was dark out, but it was still cool!

Night one was at Royal Palace, which is where Katura later went to a tea party with princesses! Upon arrival we were escorted back to table 108 and met Linval. Katura already had a children's menu with color crayons at her seat as well as an ice water in a plastic cup with lid and straw. Hot dog! Katura and I were seated first, with our chairs pushed in for us... AND our cloth napkins placed on our laps! It was then I knew I was in for a whole new experience!

Be prepared for A LOT of food photos!

First up, bread service. It was warm French Country Bread with a olive spread. (I took photos of the menu, I can't memorize this stuff!)

Appetizers. Shawn went with Gaston's Escargot Gratinee. Herb marinated snails with finely chopped mushrooms, topped with garlic butter.  He loved it! I stayed far away.

I opted for Breaded and deep-fried Brie with an orange and cranberry chutney.  Okay I don't even know what that all means, but I had it and it was quite tasty! A little rich, but I just ate it slow and enjoyed it. I felt very grown up.

Soups. Neither of us went for a salad, but we each tried soup. I went for the Potage Parmentier  - leek and potato soup. Linval was excellent at giving me suggestions after I let him know I'm a vegetarian. If it wasn't for him I may have lived off of macaroni and cheese!

Shawn chose the French Onion Soup with Gruyere Cheese crouton.

And now the Entrees

Katura chose Macaroni and Cheese with vegetables and steak fries. Obviously this was a hit for both of the little girls!

I had something VERY yummy! I chose the Grilled Marinated Tofu, Roasted Zuchini, Eggplant and Red Peppers on Israeli Couscous and a lime -cilantro drop. I admit I did NOT have anything but the tofu and the couscous, but it was all very good! I had been craving couscous, and this hit the spot!

Shawn chose the Roasted Rack of Lamb with Dauphinoise potatoes, buttered brussels sprouts and a burgundy rosemary sauce. I'm sure he enjoyed it. I know he did. As well as the snails. He was in absolute food heaven!

Drink of the Day: A Bahama Mama. It felt appropriate to get since we were on a cruise through the Bahamas!

Dessert. Seeing as I don't eat chocolate, Linval had them leave the chocolate garnish off of my Strawberry Shortcake Sundae.

Katura had her first ever Mickey bar!!

Whoa - I have no idea what Shawn had for dessert! Somehow I didn't get a photo? How is this possible?

Birthday surprise! It was noted on our reservation that we were celebrating my birthday. I was completely stunned when out came our serving team singing Happy Birthday to me and presenting me with a special slice of cake! Katura enjoyed sampling the chocolate for me. What a fabulous way to end a completely mouth watering night!
